Public open day 'shouldn't be on a weekday' says councillor

Date published: 13 January 2009

NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale has been criticised for hosting its public open day during a working weekday.

The event, which is organised to inform local people about health services available to them, has been set for Friday (16 January) at the new Nye Bevan House, between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

But speaking at the Milkstone and Deeplish Area Forum last night (Monday 12 January) Councillor Angela Coric condemned the decision to hold the meeting when most local people will be at work.

She said: “It is important for local people to have the chance to go to this meeting and it has been set up in a way where a lot of people won’t be able to make it.
“I for one am upset about the organisation of the whole event. I have only just got an email invitation to it, and we are a few days away from the event”.

The open day takes place at the Maclure Road health centre, where a there will be a variety of activities on offer and displays from a number of different services.

Nye Bevan House was officially opened in September last year by Secretary of State for Health Alan Johnson MP.

The £10million development on Maclure Road houses four GP practices and four dental suites as well as a wide range of services, including some which only used to be available at hospital.
