Tandle Hill Tavern is Pub of the Year

Date published: 16 October 2007

The Tandle Hill Tavern has been named Pub of the Year at the Co-operative Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2007 awards.

Tandle Hill beat a host of city centre pubs to scoop the title at the awards ceremony at Manchester Town Hall. In a glittering night of celebrity chefs, broadcast live on BBC Radio Manchester, Tandle Hill's landlord and lady were accompanied by many of their staff together with the marketing team from J W Lees brewery who had already given the Middleton pub their own 'Best Newcomer' award in 2006.

Leader of Rochdale Borough Council, Alan Taylor, said: "My congratulations go to the landlord and landlady at the Tandle Hill Tavern. It's a massive achievement for them and their staff to beat city centre Manchester pubs to this award, and further helps put the borough on the map and attract visitors from both in and outside the area."

Nominees for the award were:

  • The Tandle Hill Tavern (14 Thornham Lane, Middleton, Manchester)
  • Kings Arms (11 Bloom Street, Salford)
  • Circus Tavern (86 Portland Street, Manchester)
  • Knott Bar (374 Deansgate, Manchester)
  • Afewe (Royce Road, Hulme, Manchester)
  • Arden Arms (23 Millgate, Stockport)
