The protest in London on Saturday
Rochdale and Littleborough Peace Group marched across London on Saturday (10 January) to show their anger about Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
Many people from the borough joined with tens of thousands of protestors who marched from Speakers’ Corner to the Israeli embassy.
The demonstration was called by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition and British Muslim Initiative and Campaign against Nuclear Disarmament
Rochdale MP Paul Rowen was also protesting with his constituents, and made a platform speech at Hyde Park calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Philip Gilligan, of Rochdale and Littleborough Peace Group said “I realise that not everyone can join street demonstrations, but we can all take immediate action. We can stop buying Israeli goods. We can refuse to deal with businesses that support Israel. We can let Gordon Brown and David Milliband know that we want the British ambassador withdrawn from Tel Aviv and demand an immediate end to British arms and components being sold to Israel”.
He added: “I was delighted to hear Paul Rowen at the rally”.
