A £400,000 public square is set to be built in the town centre.
Plans have been announced to transform the area next to St James’ Ukrainian Church at Townhead into a sparkling new community area with benches, paving, trees and lighting.
Work is due to start in February for the development, and it is expected to be completed by the end of March.
The money for the project is being carried out by Rochdale Borough Council and Rochdale Development Agency, and will come from a Government fund.
John Hudson, Chief Executive of RDA said: “This new project is in a very important location and is a gateway to communities that are being regenerated”.
“the work will create a safe area where people can relax and enjoy it and will help to uplift the appearance of the area”.
