Rochdale ploughs on through snowfall
Date published: 07 January 2009
Rochdale motorists and workers were not daunted by the wintry weather despite further snow falling during the night.
The town ground to a halt after heavy snowfall last month when gritters failed to complete salting main roads before the beginning of the morning rush hour, leaving frustrated motorists to push their cars to work or abandon them by the roadside.
This morning (Wednesday 7 January) traffic is moving steadily across the Rochdale area with commuters travelling from Littleborough, Whitworth and Shawclough experiencing little to no delay.
Schools that shut their doors in anticipation of the heavy snow last month are open today. During last month’s snowfall 86 schools in the area were closed.
Disgruntled travellers will be relieved to know that there is no further snow forecast this week, with predictions of fog and drizzle.
