Green light to construction success

Date published: 05 January 2009

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) – the arms-length organisation responsible for council homes across the borough – has once again been reassessed as meeting the stringent requirements of the Construction Clients’ Charter.

The Construction Clients’ Charter began in July 2000 when the then Deputy Prime Minister challenged those who work with construction suppliers to draw up a charter that would set out the minimum standards they expected when purchasing construction work.

The Charter ensures RBH will be at the forefront of the drive to improve the value they obtain from their construction purchasing and they will be recognised by suppliers as best practice practitioners leading to a better business outcome for all parties including RBH’s tenants and residents. The Charter sets out RBH’s hopes for the future and a programme of steadily more demanding targets to drive up standards.

Eugene Wilson, Director of Property Services, said “Retaining our Charter status gives a clear indication of RBH’s commitment to continuously improve our performance and monitor our progress against the construction industry’s agreed targets. It shows to our partners that we work to high standards, striving to get best value in any construction work we do. It will be invaluable in our bid to build new council homes to meet the demand in the borough. We are thrilled to have once again been given the “green light” by the assessors.”
