Stabbing in Middleton
Date published: 25 December 2008
Two men are in a critical condition in hospital after a stabbing in a restaurant in Middleton.
At about 1.30am on Thursday 25 December 2008, the victims were in the Akash restaurant on Market Place.
Two men who they had earlier had an altercation with at a nearby pub, came inside the restaurant and approached their table armed with knives.
A 23-year-old man was stabbed several times in the stomach and a 22-year-old man was also stabbed in the stomach, as well as in the back of his neck.
The 22-year-old managed to leave the restaurant and walked as far as Long Street before he collapsed.
Both are in a critical condition in hospital.
A third victim, a 21-year-old man, had a slash wound to the cheek, though his injury is not life threatening.
The offenders are described as white men in their early to mid 20s.
Detectives are keen to trace a light coloured, small hatchback car that was seen driving away from the restaurant shortly afterwards.
Detective Inspector John Mazzolai said: "Two young men's lives are in danger this Christmas morning following this terrible incident.
"We would like to reassure communities that we are confident of closing in on the offenders, but still need people to come forward with information.
"You can speak to the police in confidence, as we will be able ensure that you remain anonymous and protected."
Anyone with information can call police on 0161 856 8745 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
