Important information for Streetcred customers

Streetcred, the credit union with offices in Rochdale and Middleton, ceased trading on 16 October 2007.

The MetroMoneywise credit union has no connection to Streetcred and is unaffected. However, Metromoneywise are happy to offer advice to any Streetcred members who wish to contact them, telephone 01706 714579.

Below is a list of frequently asked questions:

Question: Are my savings with Streetcred safe?
Answer: Yes. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme protects all savings in Streetcred up to £35,000. You will need to make a claim. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme aim to pay out the majority of claims within four weeks.

Question: I have a loan with Streetcred, what do I do now?
Answer: If you have a loan, it will need to be continued to be repaid and the Financial Services Authority will be in contact to let you know how this will be done.

Question: I want to make a claim. How do I do this?
Answer: Visit the Financial Services Compensation Scheme website where you should find more information or contact them on 020 7892 7300.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme are aware of the situation with Streetcred and a claim form will be sent to you. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme will provide help in completing the form if this is needed.

Question: I have my benefits paid into my Streetcred account. What should I do now?
Answer: Job Centre Plus benefits: If it is a benefit from JobCentre Plus, for example, Job Seekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disability Allowance, Income Support, contact Middleton Job Centre telephone 0161 654 2000 or Rochdale Job Centre telephone 01706 705000. They are aware of the situation and will help you with your benefit.

Housing benefit: If it is a housing benefit from Rochdale Borough Council you will be receiving a letter from us. We sent letters out on 17 October 2007 that explain how your benefit will be paid in the short term and ask you how you would like it paid in the future.

Retirement Pension or Pension Credits: telephone 0845 606 0265.

Child Benefit: telephone 0845 302 1444. To stop future payments, you will need your child benefit number. Any payments that have already been paid into the account should be reimbursed through the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Child maintenance: telephone 0845 713 3133.

Child Tax Credit or Family Tax Credit: telephone 0845 300 3900.

Question: My wage is paid into my Streetcred account or deductions from my wages are paid into my savings account with Streetcred, what do I do now?
Answer: You will need to contact your employer to stop transfers and make alternative arrangements. If your employer is Rochdale Borough Council, payroll have stopped all transfers to Streetcred and will be making alternative arrangements for staff to receive wages. Savings transfers will not be made and therefore this money will stay in your monthly salary.
