Milnrow and Newhey rants, rhymes, and reflects
Date published: 17 December 2008
The people of Milnrow and Newhey have certainly had their creative caps on this Christmas, by contributing to a book dedicated to a famed Lancashire poet.
Rants, rhymes and reflections has been written to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of dialect poet Tim Bobbin and contains more than thirty sketches of people in Milnrow as well as contributions from school students and local poetry groups - even regulars at the Slip Inn have thrown in a line or two.
The release of the book comes three weeks after this year’s Tim Bobbin Festival, where Milnrow celebrates the poet in a weekend of story-telling, dialect poetry and amateur dramatics.
Rants, rhymes and reflections will be launched at Milnrow Working Men’s Club tomorrow (Thursday 18 December) from 3pm-5.45pm and the event will be attended by the Mayor of Rochdale.
The book will also be available to purchase from Milnrow Library and various other places in Rochdale.
