New homes at Nelson Place.
The first residents have moved into their newly built homes in Nelson Place, Wardleworth.
The sixteen spacious three and four bedroom family homes were developed by Artisan in partnership with Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder and their construction has already won several awards.
The three-storey houses have also been given the eco-friendly stamp of approval, using materials from green sources aimed at cutting down residents’ bills.
The site, on which work began in July 2007, has already received planning permission for further phases which will eventually bring the total of houses up to 54.
Councillor Doreen Brophy-Lee, Rochdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing said: “It is wonderful to see local people moving in to these superb new homes.”
Local residents also had their say in the construction of Nelson Place with opportunities to express their views at Wardleworth Community Centre. Furthermore, priority of rent and purchase was given to those affected by the clearance of outdated terraces nearby.
Carol Ainscow, Chairman and Chief Executive of Artisan, said: “The new homes are a flagship for innovative design and are very much a symbol to the local community that regeneration remains on the agenda.”
The homes at Nelson Place are currently available for both rent and purchase.
