Crunch time for transport referendum - only hours left to vote

Date published: 11 December 2008

In a matter of hours the voting polls will be closed and the count will start on the Greater Manchester Transport Referendum.

The Manchester Congestion charge will be decided on public vote – yet according to Rochdale Borough Council, less than half the Rochdale population have handed in their votes.

Rochdale Town Hall will be open between 7-10pm tonight (Thursday 11 December), and voters are asked to make their way to committee room four where final votes are being taken.

Paul Rowen MP said: “It is imperative that as many people as possible cast their votes in this crucial referendum.

“It strengthens the voting system and strengthens our democracy. We are very hopeful for Rochdale and the whole of Greater Manchester, but whatever the result tomorrow, we must accept the voice of the public.”
