Skills 4 U Celebrates Heywood Achievement

Date published: 03 December 2008

To celebrate the achievements of Heywood residents, Skills 4 U are holding an Achievement Ceremony at Heywood Civic Centre on Wednesday (10 December).

Ian Smith, Project Coordinator, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “These awards are designed to congratulate the progress individuals have made to date and also congratulate them on taking the decision to make a difference, no matter how big or small, to their lives. This is also a great opportunity for us to express our gratitude to the centres who kindly allowed us to use their facilities to run our taster sessions and short courses.”

Since July this year, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale have been working in partnership with New Heart for Heywood, Hopwood Hall College and Rochdale Family Learning, to create the new Skills 4 U project.

Since opening its doors at its new town centre offices in mid September, the dedicated team at Skills 4 U has helped and supported over two hundred people onto free training courses to help them back into employment or a change in career. With this in mind, Skills 4 U would like to highlight the first steps people have taken to changing their lives and for having the confidence and commitment to do so.

Susan Coates, Chairman of the New Heart for Heywood NDC Partnership, said: “The main focus of our programme is skills, learning and raising aspirations. The Skills 4 U project has started what I hope will become a learning revolution in the NDC area. It is fantastic to see all these people raising their aspirations and wanting to improve their knowledge.”

Skills 4 U continues to offer a range of free taster sessions, short courses, mentoring support, information advice and guidance and training needs analysis.
