Snow forces 42 school closures

Date published: 02 December 2008

This morning's heavy snow has forced a total of 40 schools across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale to close today (Tuesday 2 December).

The list includes ten secondary schools where staff have been unable to make long distance journeys into school. Treacherous driving conditions and heavy traffic across the borough have left members of staff and pupils stranded on their way into school.

Pupils at Smithybridge and Sandbrook Primary Schools should note that their schools plan to re-open at 1pm.

Thousands of youngsters are now enjoying their day off, sledging and building snowmen.
