Make a difference with youth project cash
Date published: 28 November 2008
Grants of up to £10,000 to pay for activities for teenagers are available from Rochdale Council.
Youth groups across the Rochdale township are being invited to apply for the funding and make a difference to youngsters in their community.
Eligible projects, which must run for up to 12 months and show how they will influence that they will have upon local teens, can apply for a 'one off' amount.
Councillor William Hobhouse, chairman of the Rochdale Township, said: “This is a great opportunity for local community and voluntary groups to come up with ways of making a difference to youngsters’ lives. We have some fantastic organisations within the township area – many of them are already doing good work with teenagers – but we hope that this extra funding will help to provide activities that will involve even more young people. This is another example of devolution in action.”
Councillor Mohammad Sharif, chairman of the Rochdale Township’s Action and Resources Committee, added: “We know that young people are important for the future of the town, so we’ve set up this Youth Fund to encourage more activities to be put on for teenagers. I’m looking forward to seeing some exciting applications and ideas.”
To apply, groups need to fill out a form and tell the council what their project or idea is and how it will benefit youngsters aged 13-18.
The closing date for applications to the Youth Fund is 10 January 2009. The minimum amount groups can apply for is £2,000 and the maximum is £10,000.
