It's voting day - for Ellenroad Engine House

Date published: 26 November 2008

Ellenroad Engine House is due to appear on regional TV as the public make their votes on its future.

Volunteers are hoping for a new development to go ahead, which will bring another unique engine to the historic site, which has gone to public vote.

The project will be featured on ITV Granada Reports at 6pm today.

The engine, which is 23ft long and weighs 30tons will provide a stimulating work experience for young people, who are considering studying engineering or technology subjects, or who are beginning a new apprenticeship scheme.

They will get the chance to work under the tuition of skilled engineers to prepare the site, restore the engine components, rebuild the restored engine and finally make it run, all within the next year.

Only telephone votes will count. They will cost 10p from a BT landline and the computer will accept up to ten calls from each phone number .

This is the only project from the Rochdale area and it is the only Heritage Project amongst the eight finalists.
