Lower Falinge clean up
Date published: 23 November 2008
Youngsters from Lower Falinge have shown that they really care about the environment on their estate. They worked hard clearing up litter and planting bulbs and plants on the estate and in Falinge Park. To say thank you for their efforts they enjoyed a party at Falinge Park Café.
Khalida Crossley, Senior Housing Officer for Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), said: “The event was a great success with over 30 youngsters joining in. They have made a huge difference to how the estate looks and when the bulbs flower in the springtime they will see the full effect of their hard work.
"Lots of the youngsters made new friends and the party afterwards was lots of fun with a Halloween theme and plenty of party games”.
“It was fantastic that all the agencies who work on the estate came together to plan, prepare and run the event. It was a real team effort between RBH, The Council’s Environmental Management Team and their Green Volunteers, Lower Falinge Community Activity Group, RoFTRA, NESTAC, Surestart, V-Involved, Falinge Park Café, Spotlight on Falinge and the Lower Falinge Asylum Team”.
Sue Kershaw, RBH’s Communities First Co-ordinator said: “Our Pick n Party scheme is a great way for local communities to come together and show that they take pride in their estate. We help groups to organise a clean-up and contribute £100 to a party afterwards.
