Chernobyl children hope for holiday in Rochdale
Date published: 19 November 2008
After 12 successful years of giving a holiday to Belarusian children in remission from cancer, the West Pennine Branch of Chernobyl Children's Project (UK) are appealing people that can host children this summer.
They need couples who have a room for two children for two weeks in July or August.
Project organiser Stuart Carmichael says: "We need people who, as part of our group, would like to give the children the holiday of a lifetime.
"A holiday in clean air with good food for these children, aged between 9 and 16, will boost their immune system and help them overcome the effects of the illnesses which they have suffered.
"Many of the children we have hosted in the past are now working, raising their own families or studying at university to be doctors, teachers and language specialists, their holidays in Rochdale having given them the hope for a better future as well as contributing to their health."
The West Pennine CCP group gives full support to host families and organises regular trips and activities for the children, who in addition are supported by an interpreter and doctor.
