Sure Start bring and buy books for the bear

Date published: 13 November 2008

Staff at Sure Start are taking part in a Bring and Buy Book Sale for Pudsey Bear this week as part of the national Children in Need appeal.

The sale has been organised by Rochdale Borough Family Information Service, who are based within Sure Start at Crossfield Mill on Crawford Street. Staff across the mill have been asked to raid their bookshelves at home, bring their reads into work, and bag a second hand bargain to boost their library stocks once more.

Novels, Children’s books, Cookery books and autobiographies are a-plenty for the sale which has already raised more than £50, and the amount is expected to top £100 by the end of the week.

On Wednesday, staff will also have the opportunity to buy craft materials and jewellery to boost the charity total.

Rochdale business ladies will sell jewellery, crafts and early Christmas gifts to boost the fundraising. 10% of sales will go towards the final Children in Need total.

Ruth Percy, Sure Start Marketing Officer said: “It’s a great opportunity to raise funds for such a great cause. Sure Start focuses on the wellbeing and positive development of children, so to support Children in Need is close to our hearts. It’s an ideal chance for everyone clear their bookshelves of the books they read on holiday and bag a few bargains to stock up again. Any books left at the end of the sale will be donated to Springhill Hospice.”

Sure Start is part of Rochdale Council. It aims to improve the lives of children and families across the borough. Rochdale Borough Family Information Service provide impartial information on all aspects of childcare and activities for families aged 0 – 19.
