Career guidance at The Diploma Roadshow

Date published: 10 November 2008

It is hard to decide at 14 years old what career you want and what qualifications you will need to get the perfect job.

Diploma Facilitators at Rochdale Council are lending a helping hand by encouraging young people aged 14-19 to explore and discover what study options are available to them.

420 students from Rochdale Secondary Schools have been invited to attend The Diploma Roadshow, taking place at Richmond Hall on Friday (14 November), 9.30am - 4pm but anyone else aged 14-19 is more than welcome to attend and find out if a Diploma would suit them too.

Visitors will be introduced to the new Diploma qualification that combines theoretical and practical learning and is designed to give young people a fully rounded education.

Jo Manfred, 14-19 Development Officer at Rochdale Council said: “A Diploma is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge for entry to both higher education and employment. Through touch screen kiosks and one to one chats with our Diploma Facilitators young people can find out what opportunities exist in the borough to further their education and learning.”

Diplomas are central to the reforms set out by the Department for Children Schools and Families and are widely recognised as the most important change to the country’s qualification system in a generation.
