Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new pedestrian crossing on St Mary's Gate
Expected start and finish: Monday 23 September 2024 – Thursday 27 March 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary 30mph speed limit on a section of St Mary's Gate in both directions. This will begin at its junction with Union Street and continue to its junction with Spotland Road. Vehicles will also be prohibited from waiting at any time along this section.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a pedestrian crossing - Redcross Street
Expected start and finish: Friday 25 October 2024 – Friday 7 February 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Redcross Street. This will start at its junction with St Mary's Gate and continue to a point 17 metres away in a northerly direction.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new gas mains in Cook Terrace
Expected start and finish: Thursday 2 January 2025 – Thursday 30 January 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Cook Terrace, from its junction with Halifax Road for a distance of 45 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Cook Street and Halifax Road.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install traffic calming in Spotland
Expected start and finish: Monday 6 January 2025 – Monday 17 February 2025
Restriction and location:
- Ashworth Street: temporary closure of the whole road.
- Mitchell Street: temporary closure of the whole road.
- Lower Sheriff Street: temporary closure of a section of this road. The closure will start at the junction with Clement Royds Street and end at the junction with Spotland Road.
Only one road will be closed at a time during these works.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed onsite.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install permanent one-way barriers and signs for one-way working.
Expected start and finish: Monday 6 January 2025 – Friday 14 February 2025 as and when required. Only one street will be worked on at a time.
Restriction and location:
- Ashfield Road: temporary closure, from its junction with Boundary Street to a point 10 metres away in a westerly direction.
- Kensington Street: temporary closure, from its junction with New Barn Lane to a point 10 metres away in an easterly direction.
- Osbourne Street: temporary closure from its junction with New Barn Lane to a point 10 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative routes for vehicles will be posted onsite.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new gas main in Clayton Street
Expected start and finish: Thursday 9 January 2025 – Saturday 1 February 2025.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Clayton Street from a point 7 metres west of its junction with Division Street to a point 27 metres away heading west.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Division Street, Shaw Street and Warwick Street.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out electrical works on A627(M) slip road
Expected start and finish: 7pm, Sunday 26 January 2025 – 6am, Monday 27 January 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the northbound slip road from the A627M onto Edinburgh Way.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be southbound along Edinburgh Way, Queensway and northbound along Edinburgh Way.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To reset a waste water cover in Pagan Street
Expected start and finish: 7pm–10pm, Monday 3 February 2025
Restriction and location: Pagan Street: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will start at the junction with John Street and end at a point 3 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out bridge works - Boothroyden Road
Expected start and finish: Monday 12 August 2024 – Monday 11 August 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Boothroyden Road. This will start at a point 34 metres south of its junction with Boothroyden Close and continue for a distance of 27 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To work on water connections in Rookway
Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Tuesday 14 January 2025 – 7pm, Thursday 16 January 2025
Restriction and location: Rookway: a section will be closed. The closure will start at the junction with Uplands and end at a point 49 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Uplands, Kingsway, Crow Hill North and Rookway.
Area: Middleton
Reason: Temporary closure of Taylor Street
Expected start and finish: Thursday 23 January 2025 – Sunday 11 May 2025
Restriction and location: Taylor Street: temporary closure of this road, from the junction with Albert Street to the northern end.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out required works to pavement and road on the Queens Park Road bridge and help traffic flow.
Expected start and finish: January 2024 – December 2024.
Restriction and location:
- Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Queens Park Road, from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
- Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Bamford Road from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road.
Alternative routes:
- The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road is via Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.
- The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to Bury and Rochdale Old Road is via Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58), Queens Park Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out testing on the railway level crossing on Smithy Bridge Road
Expected start and finish: 12.10am–5.30am, Sunday 12 January 2025
Restriction and location: Smithy Bridge Road: a section around the railway level crossing will be temporarily closed. This closure will start 15 metres north of the level crossing and end 40 metres away in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road (Littleborough), Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road (Rochdale), Albert Royds Street, Halifax Road (A58) and Smithy Bridge Road.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new electrical service connection in the road and pavement on Oak Hill
Expected start and finish: Thursday 16 January 2025 – Wednesday 22 January 2025
Restriction and location: Oak Hill: a section of this road will be temporarily closed. The closure will start at the junction with Laburnum Way and end at a point 17 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Laburnum Way, Starring Way and Oak Hill.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To install new electrical services in the road and pavement on William Street
Expected start and finish: Friday 17 January 2025 – Thursday 30 January 2025
Restriction and location: William Street: a section of this road will be temporarily closed. This closure will begin at the junction with Butterworth Street and end at a point 50 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Butterworth Street, Featherstall Road and Stubley Mill Road.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new electrical service connection in James Street
Expected start and finish: 9.30am–3.30pm each day, Monday 20 January 2025 – Thursday, 23 January 2025
Restriction and location:
- James Street: Temporary one-way working: vehicles won't be able to travel along James Street in a north easterly direction. This restriction will be in place from its junction with Arm Road to a point 91 metres away in a north easterly direction.
- Arm Road: One way working: this restriction will be in place from its junction with James Street for a distance of 18 metres.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be James Street, Finance Street, New Road and Arm Road.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new electrical service track in Arm Road
Expected start and finish: 8am, Friday 24 January 2025 – 7pm, Sunday 26 January 2025
Restriction and location: Arm Road: a section will temporarily be changed to one way working. This will start at the junction with New Road and end at the junction with James Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be New Road, Finance Street and James Street.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new electrical service connection track in the road and pavement on Paddock Head
Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday, 27 January 2025–6pm, Sunday, 2 February 2025
Restriction and location: Paddock Head will be temporarily closed to pedestrians.
Access for vehicles will be maintained when safe to do so.
Alternative route: The alternative route for pedestrians will be Whitegate, Smithy Bridge Road and New Road.
