Students and staff don Christmas jumpers for Papyrus

Date published: 30 December 2024

Students and staff at Whitworth Community High School donned Christmas jumpers and hats to raise money for Papyrus. Year 10 student Tiffany Thomson, 14, sported a unique jumper as it had been created by her mum Hannah Tyrrell.

She said: “We didn’t have enough time left to go out and buy a jumper so my mum slaved on this for a weekend.”

Tinsel and baubles were attached to a sweatshirt to create a beautiful Christmas tree complete with tinsel cuffs on the sleeves.

Hannah said: “When Tiffany saw it, she said, ‘Wow’. She told me it was great and she couldn’t believe that I had the ability to make it.”

Tiffany added: “I think it is better and any jumper bought from a shop and the fact my mum made it is impressive. I was shocked by how good it was; thank you mother.”

Lots of other students also donned jumpers and Decoe Jamieson, 14, also in Year 10, wore his Grinch jumper.

He said: “I think it is important raising money; at this time of year we should be doing something positive for others.”

All participants donated money to Papyrus Suicide Prevention and approximately £280 was raised on the day, the final total will be presented to the charity in the New Year.
