Rochdale groups unite to promote White Ribbon Campaign 2024

Date published: 29 November 2024

Rochdale Connections Trust (RCT) is partnering with WHAG (Women’s Housing Action Group) and other local organisations to promote this year's White Ribbon campaign.

The initiative focuses on engaging men and boys to help end violence against women and girls.

Residents of Rochdale are being encouraged to contribute by sharing their views on what changes would make them feel safer in the borough.

Two surveys have been launched to gather feedback, which can be submitted anonymously. The surveys cater to both men and women and aim to identify key areas for improvement in the community.

Jenny Miller, domestic abuse manager at RCT, said the organisation is thrilled to be spearheading the campaign again.

She said: “We are really excited to be running another 16 Days of Action for White Ribbon, highlighting the much-needed change in the borough.

“This year it has been bigger and better, with more partner agencies and other charities getting involved to raise awareness and end violence to women and girls.”

Jenny also revealed that the campaign will feature the organisation’s annual procession and a host of planned activities in collaboration with WHAG.

These events form part of the broader 16 Days of Activism, which began on 25 November 2024.

Jenny, who celebrated 20 years with RCT this year, has led White Ribbon campaigns for several years.

Her efforts have centred on supporting and protecting women and girls in Rochdale. She has facilitated various education and well-being sessions for men and women across the borough.

Violence against women and girls can take many forms, and behaviours that might initially seem harmless can have serious consequences over time.

The campaign emphasises the importance of everyday allyship and the significant impact of small, positive actions.
