Lottie Lambert wins Judges’ Choice Award in photography competition

Date published: 16 November 2024

Rochdale’s Lottie Lambert has won the Judges’ Choice Award in the Down’s Syndrome Association’s ‘My Perspective’ photography competition. Her self-portrait, titled Proud and Tired, took the prize in the Child category, standing out among a field of entries from across the globe.

Lottie, who entered the competition for the first time, said she was thrilled by the win. “I am super excited because it's the first time I've entered the competition, and I didn't think my photo would be picked,” she said. “I loved going to London with mummy and daddy.”

Lottie’s passion for photography shone through when she described her inspiration: “I like using the camera. I like using different colours and angles,” she shared.

Her winning image, Proud and Tired, was taken during a family trip up Helm Crag, a scenic mountain.

Describing the photograph, Lottie said, “This is me when I walked up a mountain called Helm Crag. It was lovely and nice because it was sunny and I was with my family.”

She explained why she chose the title, saying, “I have called my photo Proud and Tired because I was very proud of getting to near the top. It was very hard for me, but I did it even though I was very tired at the end!”

The My Perspective competition invites people with Down’s syndrome from around the world to share their creative talents.

This year, entries arrived from as far as Guatemala, India, South Africa, Australia, and the United States, with participants competing in both adult and child photography categories as well as a short film category.

The award ceremony took place on 7 November at the historic Normansfield Theatre in London’s Langdon Down Centre, where finalists were celebrated for their achievements.

Hosted by actors Sarah Gordy and Sam Devereaux, the event announced winners across multiple categories, highlighting the creativity and vision of each participant.

Winners included Andrew Bingham alongside Lottie Lambert in the Judges’ Choice Award category, while Janelle Chetty and Ezra Tewodros took home the People’s Choice Award.

Additional honours went to Tiana Legge for the Stephen Thomas Award and Parvana Huseynli in the Short Film category.

Through the My Perspective competition, the Down’s Syndrome Association provides a platform for photographers with Down’s syndrome to share their unique view of the world. Rather than being the subjects, these photographers use their lenses to tell stories meaningful to them, empowering them to share perspectives that often go unseen.
