Library's 'knit & natter' group creates hundreds of hats for premature babies

Date published: 16 October 2024

A dedicated group of knitters from Whitworth has come together to make hundreds of colourful hats for premature babies at Royal Bolton Hospital.

The Knit & Natter group, which meets every Monday afternoon at Whitworth Library, has been hard at work crafting tiny hats for newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The group, known for its friendly and lively atmosphere, provides a welcoming space for both its members and other library visitors, while also making a meaningful impact on the community.

The group has received significant support from the Whitworth community, with local residents generously donating wool to help with their efforts.

Sheila Morgan, a member of the Knit & Natter group, expressed the group's joy in contributing to the cause, saying: "We always enjoy a good chat and get together, and it's been lovely to be able to help the hospital out with the tiny hats for babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit."

Fellow member Janet Hall highlighted the inclusivity of the group and the warmth of the library setting. "It's wonderful to be part of the group, and the library is such a warm and welcoming space.

"We're always open to new members, you don't need to be an expert knitter to join us each Monday. Just come along and join in, we'll be glad to see you."

The group meets every Monday from 2 to 4pm at Whitworth Library, and all are welcome to drop in and take part in their sessions.
