Citizens Advice welcomes 'energy champion' to tackle fuel poverty

Date published: 06 September 2024

Citizens Advice Rochdale has recently appointed a new 'energy champion', who plans to collaborate with local organisations and community groups to enhance energy awareness across the borough.

Beata Rolson will focus on empowering residents with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate rising energy costs, with a particular emphasis on supporting vulnerable and underrepresented groups.

She brings extensive experience to her new role, having previously worked as an energy caseworker. She said: "My experience as an energy caseworker has given me a deep understanding of the challenges people are facing, particularly around fuel poverty."

"This can be influenced by factors such as a lack of knowledge about energy efficiency, tariffs, and understanding bills."

Beata will lead various initiatives within the community, including workshops, presentations, and events aimed at promoting energy-saving tips and raising awareness of available grants.

Her projects will also cover slow cooking workshops, the benefits of smart meters, and providing training for frontline staff.

She added: "I'm passionate about raising energy awareness and equipping people with the knowledge to manage high energy costs.

"I'm particularly keen to support minority and underrepresented groups, and those most vulnerable to fuel poverty."

In her first month, Beata is excited to establish new connections, listen to ideas on potential collaborations, and begin delivering workshops throughout Rochdale.

Beata can be reached by email on: beata.roslon@casort.org
