Family fun day in honour of “incredible” Jane Leyland

Date published: 06 September 2024

Community Careline Services recently held a family fun day to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and the Community Careline Service fund.

The event, which took place in memory of Jane Leyland, a much-loved member of the Community Careline Services family, raised £502.

The event, organised to bring together families, friends, and local residents, featured a variety of activities, including raffles, food stalls, and an indoor bouncy castle.

The event aimed to support two important causes: the MND Association, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals affected by Motor Neurone Disease, and the Community Careline service fund, which helps reduce isolation for those they support by funding events and activities.

A highlight of the day was the presence of the Greater Manchester Blood Bikes Charity, who unveiled their latest blood runner car.

Named "Our Jane" in honour of Jane Leyland, this car will be used to transport essential medical supplies, blood, and medication across the region. The tribute was a fitting way to commemorate Jane’s life and the spirit of service she embodied.

The decision to support the MND Association was particularly meaningful for those at Community Careline Services. The charity’s work in providing care and support to individuals living with MND, as well as their families, is deeply appreciated. Additionally, the funds they raise contribute to vital research aimed at finding a cure for this devastating disease.

For Community Careline Services, this cause is especially poignant, as Jane Leyland was more than just a service user – she was a dear friend to many within the organisation.

Her courage and strength throughout her illness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. The day was a way for the team to honour her memory and contribute to a cause that aims to prevent others from facing similar hardships.

Rebecca Smith, manager of Community Careline Services, shared her thoughts on Jane and the significance of the event: “Jane was an inspiration to all of us. Her bravery in facing such a difficult illness touched everyone she met.

“She was an incredible woman who sparked joy and laughter. We are proud to honour her memory by supporting the MND Association and doing our part to help others affected by this devastating disease.

“Hosting the event was our way of celebrating her life while contributing to a cause close to our hearts.

“We especially thank the Greater Manchester Blood Bikes Charity for their touching tribute to Jane. Knowing that Jane is still making a difference in other people’s lives is an incredible way for her to live on with us.”

The funds raised, totalling £502 will be divided equally between the MND Association and the Community Careline Service user fund.

This contribution will enable Community Careline Services to continue hosting events such as coffee mornings, outings, and Christmas gatherings, all of which are designed to reduce social isolation among those they support.
