Awards evening celebrates young achievers

Date published: 04 September 2024

Rochdale's Kashmir Youth Project (KYP) hosted a vibrant awards evening on Friday, 23 August, recognising the accomplishments of young people involved with the Young Khadims and those who have supported the organisation's mission.

The ceremony, organised by the Young Khadims, commenced with a Tilawat of the Quran, performed by Rochdale's Qari Adeel Ul Rehman.

This was followed by a selection of nasheeds from Hafiz Ehsan of Oldham and Hassan Raza of Manchester. Attendees were then treated to a progress video highlighting the Young Khadims' journey over the past 20 months.

The Young Khadims was launched in December 2022, with members’ ages ranging from 14-23. Since the launch, the group has carried out events like feeding the homeless, a sleepover at a mosque, a funeral and educational workshop, and youth and community iftars.

Khadim is the plural of the Arabic word ‘khidmah’ which means service; the group’s motto is “to selflessly serve society.”

Certificates were presented to local mosque representatives who have provided crucial support by hosting activities in their places of worship.

Further certificates were awarded to young people from the Young Khadims and various organisational partners who have collaborated with the project.

Local community influencers delivered speeches during the event. Aqub from Aspire 2 Inspire Communities spoke on the importance of dismantling barriers within the community.

Sheraz from Army Of Kindness emphasised the significance of empowering young people to assume leadership roles when needed.

The evening concluded with Hafiz Ehsan's address on the importance of remaining steadfast during challenging times.

The final segment of the evening honoured young people for their efforts in the “Selflessly Serve Society” initiative.

Special awards were given to Ghausia Masjid Rochdale for their support over recent months, including hosting a youth iftar gathering during Ramadan, a second annual funday, and other youth-oriented programmes.

Moheeb of Jamia Masjid Bilal Rochdale was also recognised for his dedication to organising youth events.

Additional awards were presented to members of the Young Khadims team and local businesses that have provided vital assistance throughout the year.

A special mention was made of Action Together for their support in facilitating the awards ceremony.

The event celebrated the collective efforts of individuals and organisations in fostering community spirit and youth empowerment.
