Rockery remembers Heywood's notables
Date published: 27 October 2008
A new rockery built by the Heywood Township's environmental team recognises some of the town's famous sons and daughters.
Two plaques alongside the environmental works in West Heywood remember some of the mayors of Heywood and some of the town's most notable residents.
The environmental team are helping to deliver a better approach to the environment in Heywood, and the rockery project is one of a number that have been taking place in the town.
Township Chairman Councillor Alan McCarthy praised the team for the incorporation of Heywood history into the new environmental works in West Heywood.
Councillor McCarthy said: "This area is an important part of the gateway into Heywood, and gives a good impression of the approach to Heywood, not only to our local residents but to visitors to our town.
"The two rockery designs record important times in the history of Heywood."
