New interactive walking trail for young adventurers at Hollingworth Lake
Date published: 04 August 2024
The trail will be at Hollingworth Lake
The GM Ringway, Greater Manchester’s walking trail, has partnered with the Sunnywood Project to create a free, interactive, self-guided walking trail in Rochdale this summer.
The trail, named Sleuth & Stride, is located around Hollingworth Lake and spans 3.7 km, taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete.
Young adventurers can turn detectives by using QR codes placed around the lake to investigate whether a monster lurks in Hollingworth Lake or if it’s merely a myth. Participants can watch video case files, examine evidence, and reach their own conclusions by the end of the trail. This initiative aims to promote a love of the outdoors through engaging arts and nature activities.
Andrew Read, GM Ringway’s project lead said: “This is a fun way to introduce young people to the GM Ringway and the joy of walking. Hollingworth Lake is a beautiful part of our 200-mile route.
"We’re really pleased to have joined forces with the Sunnywood Project to create this innovative and engaging family-focused initiative, and we hope it will bring hours of enjoyment and lots of lasting memories for hundreds of families this summer.”
Each of the eight QR codes holds an intriguing clue from Detective Investigator Sleuth and his trusty dragon partner, Stride. The trial is aimed at children from five years upwards and grown-ups can join in too.
