Middleton primary pupils showcase talent in shopping centre exhibition

Date published: 28 July 2024

Pupils from several primary schools in Middleton attended the grand opening of an exhibition showcasing their artwork at Middleton Shopping Centre. The event marked the culmination of the Schools Art Challenge 2024, an initiative organised and run by members of Rotary Middleton.

The challenge, which this year focused on Year 6 pupils, invited students to create large pieces of artwork after completing their SATs exams.

The resulting exhibition is a testament to the exceptional talent and creativity of the young artists. The quality of the work on display has been described as outstanding, a hallmark of the participating schools.

Peter Allonby, president of Rotary Middleton, officiated the opening ceremony. He welcomed the young artists and praised them for the high standard of their work. "Helping young people to develop and reach their potential is a fundamental aim of Rotary," Allonby stated, emphasising the organisation's commitment to supporting youth development.

This year's participating schools included Alkrington Primary, Boarshaw Primary, Elmwood Primary, Parish Church of England Primary, St. Gabriel's Primary, St. John Fisher Primary, and St. Peter’s Primary.

These schools collaborated to produce an array of artwork that reflects the diverse talents and perspectives of the pupils.

The Middleton Shopping Centre generously donated a unit for the two-week duration of the exhibition, which is open to the public daily from 10am to 2pm, until 5 August. This accessible timing allows the community to appreciate the hard work and creativity of the local children.

The exhibition not only celebrates the artistic achievements of the students but also strengthens the community spirit, bringing together families, educators, and local residents. It serves as an inspiration for other young people to engage in creative pursuits and contributes to the vibrant cultural landscape of Middleton.

As the exhibition continues, visitors are encouraged to leave comments and feedback, further enriching the experience for the young artists and fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.

The Schools Art Challenge 2024 has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on both the participants and the wider community.
