Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a damaged frame and cover in the road - Ginnell Farm Avenue
Expected start and finish: Wednesday 3 July 2024 – Wednesday 24 July 2024 or until works are completed if sooner.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Ginnell Farm Avenue. This will start at its junction with Strawberry Close and continue for a distance of 26 metres in an easterly direction.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out emergency sewer repairs in the road - Law Street
Expected start and finish: Wednesday 3 July 2024 – Wednesday 24 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Law Street. This will start from a point 14 metres from its junction with Rouse Street and continue for a distance of 25 metres in a northerly direction.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Norman Road
Expected start and finish:
- 8am, Saturday 13 July 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 14 July 2024
- 8am, Saturday 20 July 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 21 July 2024
- 8am, Saturday 27 July 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 28 July 2024
- 8am, Saturday 3 August 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 4 August 2024
- 8am, Saturday 10 August 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 11 August 2024
- 8am, Saturday 17 August 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 18 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Norman Road, from its junction with Dane Street to a point 470 metres in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be signed onsite.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface War Office Road
Expected start and finish: Monday 29 July 2024 – Friday 2 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of War Office Road. This will start at its junction with Bury Road and continue for a distance of 60 metres in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be War Office Road, Norden Road, Bury and Rochdale Old Road and Bury Road.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out electrical works in the road - Hope Street
Expected start and finish: Thursday 1 August 2024 – Wednesday 7 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Hope Street.
This will start from its junction with Redwood Street and run to a point 24 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Redcross Street, Wilson Street, Old Mill Street and Hope Street.
School Lane and Church Stile, roadworks in Rochdale from 5 August 2024
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface School Lane and Church Stile
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Monday 5 August 2024 – Monday 26 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- School Lane, for its entire length.
- Church Stile, from its junction with Sparrow Hill to a point 80 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation. Pedestrian access won't be affected.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Shawclough Way, Holstein Avenue and Burwell Close
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 7 August 2024 – Wednesday 28 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Shawclough Way, from its junction with Shawclough Road to a point 106 metres away in a north easterly direction.
- Holstein Avenue, for its entire length.
- Burwell Close, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation. Pedestrian access won't be affected.
Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out works to the pavement and road, and install parking bays - Pershore Road
Expected start and finish: Tuesday 28 May 2024 – Friday 19 July 2024
Restriction and location:
- Temporary one-way working in a south westerly direction along Pershore Road, from a point 87 metres west of its junction with Nowell Road to its junction with Sherbourne Road. Vehicles won't be allowed to travel in a north easterly direction along Pershore Road between these 2 points.
- During the times the works are active, vehicles won't be allowed to turn either left or right from Sherbourne Road onto Pershore Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic that would otherwise travel along Pershore Road in a north easterly direction is Sherbourne Road, Nowell Road and Pershore Road.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace gas mains in the road - Oldham Road
Expected start and finish: Wednesday 3 July 2024 – Friday 2 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary suspension of the bus lane on the offside lane of the southerly carriageway. This will be from a point 37 metres west of the Oldham Road, Ashton Lane and Assheton Way roundabout for a distance of 75 metres in a westerly direction.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface the road - Kingsway
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Saturday 27 July 2024 – Saturday 17 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closures along the following roads:
- Kingsway, from the roundabout with Andover Avenue and Mainway East, to the roundabout with Hardfield Road and Mount Road.
- Kenyon Lane, for its entire length.
- Lever Walk, for its entire length.
- Birchwood Road, from its junction with Kenyon Lane to its junction with Monmouth Street.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface Bowness Road
Expected start and finish: 9am–4pm each day, Monday 29 July 2024 – Monday 19 August 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Bowness Road, from its junction with Windermere Road to its junction with Broomfield Crescent.
- Wythburn Road, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface the road - Nowell Road
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 31 July 2024 – Wednesday 21 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Nowell Road, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out water works in Beech Road
Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Tuesday 6 August 2024 – 6pm, Friday 9 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Beech Walk. This will be from its junction with Manor Road and continue to a point 42 metres away in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Beech Walk, Crow Hill South, Ash Walk and Manor Road.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out water connection works in the road - Ellis Lane
Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Tuesday 6 August 2024 – 6pm, Thursday 8 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Ellis Lane. This will start from a point 285 metres south east of its junction with Heywood Old Road and continue for a distance of 65 metres in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Ellis Lane, Heywood Old Road, Manchester Old Road and Boardman Lane.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface Mossway and Gloucester Road
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Friday 9 August 2024 – Friday 30 August 2024 as required.
Restriction and location:
- Temporary closure of Mossway, from its junction with Manchester New Road for a distance of 300 metres in a south easterly direction.
- Temporary closure of Gloucester Road, from its junction with Kingsway to its junction with Alcester Close.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out required works to pavement and road on the Queens Park Road bridge and help traffic flow.
Expected start and finish: January 2024 – December 2024.
Restriction and location:
- Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Queens Park Road, from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road,
- Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Bamford Road from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road,
Alternative routes:
- The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road is via Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.
- The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to Bury and Rochdale Old Road is via Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58), Queens Park Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To improve the roads and pavements - Regent Street
Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day between Monday 24 June 2024 - Friday 9 August 2024.
Restriction and location:
- Temporary one-way working along Regent Street from a point 34 metres west of its junction with Pilsworth Road to its junction with Regent Close.
- Vehicles won't be able to travel along Regent Street in a westerly direction from its junction with Regent Close to a point 34 metres east of its junction with Pilsworth Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles wanting to travel along Regent Street in an easterly direction is High Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To install new traffic calming measures - Egerton Street and Coomassie Street
Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day between Monday 24 June 2024 - Friday 16 August 2024.
Restriction and location
- Temporary closure of Egerton Street from its junction with Coomassie Street to its junction with Pilsworth Road for a distance of 340 metres in a westerly direction.When Egerton Street is closed Coomassie Street will be open.
- Temporary closure of Coomassie Street from its junction with Egerton Street to its junction of Cartridge Street for a distance of 220 metres in a northerly direction. When Coomassie Street is closed Egerton Street will be open.
Alternative routes:
- The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Egerton Street will be Hind Hill Street, Church Street, Market Place, Market Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.
- The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Coomassie Street will be Egerton Street, Pilsworth Road, Tower Street and Cartridge Street.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To repair a leaking water valve in Well Street
Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 13 July 2024 – 8am, Saturday 3 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Well Street, from its junction with Manchester Street for a distance of 20 metres in an easterly direction.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To resurface Magdala Street and Wolsey Street
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 31 July 2024 – Wednesday 21 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Magdala Street, for its entire length.
- Wolsey Street, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To resurface Cherwell Avenue
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Thursday 1 August 2024 – Thursday 22 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closures of the following roads:
- Cherwell Avenue, for its entire length.
- Clemshaw Close, for its entire length.
- Margaret Street, for its entire length.
- Lyn Grove, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.
Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leak in the road - Wardle Fold
Expected start and finish: Friday 5 July 2024 – Friday 26 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Wardle Fold. This will start at its junction with Brooklands and continue for a distance of 15 metres in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To rebuild a chamber in the road on behalf of United Utilities - Shore Road
Expected start and finish: 9.30am–3.30pm, Wednesday 17 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Shore Road.
This will run from its junction with Butterworth Place to a point 38 metres in a north westerly direction.
Access will be maintained where it's safe to do so.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic will be Shore Road, Calderbrook Road, Whalley Avenue, Furness Avenue and Shore Road.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To hold the Littleborough Rushbearing Festival parade.
Expected start and finish: The parade will proceed along Shore Road, St Barnabas Drive, Hare Hill Road, Church Street and Railway Street between 10.30am and 1.30pm on Saturday 20 July 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Shore Road, for its entire length.
- St Barnabas Drive, for its entire length.
- Hare Hill Road, for its entire length.
- Church Street, from its junction with Hare Hill Road to its junction with Railway Street.
- Railway Street, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Peel Street.
Alternative route: Due to the nature and duration of the parades, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out tests on the level crossing - Smithy Bridge Road
Expected start and finish: 12.10am – 5.30am, Sunday 28 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Smithy Bridge Road. This will start at a point 15 metres north west of the level crossing and continue for a distance of 40 metres in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road, Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road, Albert Royds Street, Halifax Road and Smithy Bridge Road.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair water damage to Smithy Bridge Road
Expected start and finish: 8am, Wednesday 31 July 2024 – 6pm, Friday 2 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Smithy Bridge Road. This will start from a point 52 metres of the crossing and continue to a point 91 metres away in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road (Littleborough), Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road (Rochdale), Albert Royds Street, Halifax Road and Smithy Bridge Road.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out gas mains replacement work in the road and pavement - St James Street
Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 5 August 2024 – 6pm, Friday 30 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of St James Street. This will start at its junction with Kiln Lane and continue to its junction with Chapel Gate. Access will be provided if required and safe to do so.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Kiln Lane, Simeon Street, Chapel Gate and St James Street.
