TV legend Tommy Cannon set to shine at Middleton Arena

Date published: 15 July 2024

Middleton Arena is gearing up for TV legend Tommy Cannon this October as part of his highly anticipated solo tour.

After a remarkable career as one half of the beloved comedy duo Cannon & Ball, Tommy Cannon is embarking on his first solo theatre tour across Great Britain at the age of 86.

This tour, inspired by encouragement from pop superstar Robbie Williams, marks a new chapter for the veteran entertainer.

Tommy will grace the stage at Middleton Arena on Friday 18 October 2024. Reflecting on his journey, Tommy said: “Covid and its restrictions brought unprecedented challenges on every level.

"Losing Bobby during the pandemic left me feeling vulnerable and deeply saddened. But the support from friends and fans has been incredible, and now, I’m ready to step out again.”

The Cannon & Ball duo captivated millions, becoming Saturday night TV fixtures with audiences of over 20 million viewers.

Tommy expressed his excitement for the upcoming tour, especially his appearance at Middleton Arena. He said: “I can’t wait to get started with my solo tour – I think that at the age of 86 it’s likely to be some kind of a record breaker when it comes to debut tours.

“I want to thank so many special friends that have helped me put the past behind me and have been encouraging me to step out again. It will be really special to appear at Middleton Arena in October as I have a life-long connection to the area.

“Myself and Bobby learnt our trade around the Manchester area and some of our greatest achievements were made when working in the region that means so much to me.

He added: “Robbie Williams invited me and my family to his last tour as special guests and when we met up after his show in Manchester, he made me feel so welcome and relevant, in fact during his concert he introduced me to the 22,000 plus crowd and had everyone chanting my name.

“I honestly didn’t realise that people would still feel that love, when I got home, I thought about it and decided “why not” I still have an audience out there, it’s just that like me, they are a little older.

That night in front of Robbie was a real game changer.”

Tommy’s solo show, "Rock On Tommy," will feature a nostalgic journey through his career with classic clips and support from some of his favourite acts. This tour promises to be a heartfelt tribute to his enduring legacy and a celebration of his resilience and passion for entertainment.
