Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Norman Road

Expected start and finish: 

  • 8am, Saturday 6 July 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 7 July 2024
  • 8am, Saturday 13 July 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 14 July 2024
  • 8am, Saturday 20 July 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 21 July 2024
  • 8am, Saturday 27 July 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 28 July 2024
  • 8am, Saturday 3 August 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 4 August 2024
  • 8am, Saturday 10 August 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 11 August 2024
  • 8am, Saturday 17 August 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 18 August 2024

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Norman Road, from its junction with Dane Street to a point 470 metres in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be signed onsite.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out electrical works - Lower Wheat End

Expected start and finish: 9am – 4pm each day, Monday 8 July – Friday 12 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Lower Wheat End. This will start from its junction with Croxton Avenue and end at a point 21 metres away in a westerly direction.
Access will be provided if required and safe to do so.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out works to the pavement and road, and install parking bays - Pershore Road

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 28 May 2024 – Friday 19 July 2024
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working in a south westerly direction along Pershore Road, from a point 87 metres west of its junction with Nowell Road to its junction with Sherbourne Road. Vehicles won't be allowed to travel in a north easterly direction along Pershore Road between these 2 points.
  • During the times the works are active, vehicles won't be allowed to turn either left or right from Sherbourne Road onto Pershore Road.

Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic that would otherwise travel along Pershore Road in a north easterly direction is Sherbourne Road, Nowell Road and Pershore Road.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace gas mains in the road - Oldham Road

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 3 July 2024 – Friday 2 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary suspension of the bus lane on the offside lane of the southerly carriageway. This will be from a point 37 metres west of the Oldham Road, Ashton Lane and Assheton Way roundabout for a distance of 75 metres in a westerly direction.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out required works to pavement and road on the Queens Park Road bridge and help traffic flow.

Expected start and finish: January 2024 – December 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Queens Park Road, from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road,
  • Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Bamford Road from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road,

Alternative routes:

  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road is via Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to Bury and Rochdale Old Road is via Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58), Queens Park Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To improve the roads and pavements - Regent Street

Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day between Monday 24 June 2024 - Friday 9 August 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working along Regent Street from a point 34 metres west of its junction with Pilsworth Road to its junction with Regent Close.
  • Vehicles won't be able to travel along Regent Street in a westerly direction from its junction with Regent Close to a point 34 metres east of its junction with Pilsworth Road.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles wanting to travel along Regent Street in an easterly direction is High Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To install new traffic calming measures - Egerton Street and Coomassie Street

Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day between Monday 24 June 2024 - Friday 16 August 2024.
Restriction and location

  • Temporary closure of Egerton Street from its junction with Coomassie Street to its junction with Pilsworth Road for a distance of 340 metres in a westerly direction.When Egerton Street is closed Coomassie Street will be open.
  • Temporary closure of Coomassie Street from its junction with Egerton Street to its junction of Cartridge Street for a distance of 220 metres in a northerly direction. When Coomassie Street is closed Egerton Street will be open.

Alternative routes:

  • The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Egerton Street will be Hind Hill Street, Church Street, Market Place, Market Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Coomassie Street will be Egerton Street, Pilsworth Road, Tower Street and Cartridge Street.

Reason: To repair a leaking water main in the road - Bamford Road

Expected start and finish: Monday 24 June 2024 – Monday 15 July 2024 or when works are complete if earlier.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Bamford Road. This will start from its junction with West Starkey Street and run to its junction with Heywood Hall Road.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To hold the Darnhill Festival Parade

Expected start and finish: 11.45am–12noon, Saturday 6 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Argyle Street, from its easterly junction with Sutherland Road to its westerly junction with Sutherland Road.
  • Argyle Parade, for its entire length.
  • Sutherland Road, from its easterly junction with Argyle Street to its westerly junction with Argyle Street.

Alternative route: Due to the nature and duration of the event, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To rebuild a chamber in the road on behalf of United Utilities - Shore Road

Expected start and finish: 9.30am–3.30pm, Wednesday 17 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Shore Road.
This will run from its junction with Butterworth Place to a point 38 metres in a north westerly direction.
Access will be maintained where it's safe to do so.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic will be Shore Road, Calderbrook Road, Whalley Avenue, Furness Avenue and Shore Road.
