Blaze on Summer Street
Firefighters faced a challenging operation after a large fire erupted at an industrial estate in Rochdale over the weekend.
Smoke was visible from miles away after the fire, which broke out on Summer Street, took hold of a building at around 2.00pm on Saturday (22 June).
Officers worked throughout the afternoon to bring the flames under control, with their efforts continuing into Sunday.
A spokesperson for the fire service commended the dedication and hard work of the firefighters in managing such a significant incident.
A GMFRS spokesperson said: "Before 2pm (June 22) firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Summer Street in Rochdale.
“Eight fire engines from Rochdale, Heywood, Littleborough, Oldham, Hollins, Blackley and Ashton fire stations arrived at the scene, with another two arriving to assist in efforts to bring the fire under control.
"The incident is scaled down, however, firefighters remain at the scene to continue dampening down any hotspots. Cordons are in place as they await the arrival of Fire Investigation Officers."
