Rochdale sixth-best place in the country for stargazing

Date published: 18 June 2024

Rochdale is shining bright as the sixth-best place to go stargazing in England, it has emerged.

The borough is reported to have a low light pollution level of 2.85 and an air quality index of 27, putting it up there with one of the best places in the country to gaze at the night sky.

Dark skies provide the perfect backdrop for witnessing astronomical wonders, as the minimal artificial light ensures that the faint glow of stars, meteor showers, and other phenomena remain visible and undisturbed.

Millets, who revealed the data this week, unveiled all premier locations in the UK for stargazing, along with the optimal times of year and nights for the clearest starry views.

Rochdale twinkled brightly in their rankings, claiming the sixth spot ahead of Barnsley, Northampton, York, Brighton, and Bournemouth.

Rochdale offers astronomers and star enthusiasts a prime vantage point to explore the night sky's infinite wonders.
