Importance of volunteers highlighted at Springhill Hospice party

Celebrating volunteers at Springhill Hospice
Springhill Hospice celebrated volunteers’ week recently by hosting their annual volunteers awards event and party.
Volunteers are integral to the success and quality of Springhill’s services, with over 230 individuals giving their time and skills at their charity shops, at events and in their gardens, kitchens and across the hospice.
Last year those volunteer hours saved the hospice almost half a million pounds, allowing more money to be put back into palliative care services for Rochdale residents.
It’s not just a one-way experience though, with many of the volunteers at the event commenting that the time dedicated to Springhill is the best part of their week.
One volunteer, Eileen who recently celebrated her 90th birthday received her 30-year service award and credited those hours with keeping her young.
Volunteer coordinator, Deb Howarth said: “We wouldn’t have been awarded a CQC rating of Outstanding without our fabulous volunteers. We have special volunteers for Springhill Hospice which is a very special place in the hearts of many people from Rochdale.
"We couldn’t do it without them."
- Springhill Hospice is always looking for more volunteers, so if you can offer even a couple of hours a month, please feel free to speak to Deb on 01706 649920 and find out how much it can do for you in return.
