Date published: 30 May 2024

Rochdale’s oldest mosque was honoured at the 2024 British Muslim Awards for its outstanding work in the community.

The Golden Mosque which was awarded the ‘Mosque of the Year’ award, received the prestigious and national award for its ongoing work with charitable causes both locally and internationally.

The award follows a series of others including the Mosque in Bloom Award 2023, and continues to find itself in the headlines for raising thousands of pounds for charity, whilst supporting many local youth initiatives in the area.

The British Muslim Awards 2024 stands out as a highly esteemed event within the British Muslim community, dedicated to honouring and celebrating the remarkable achievements and contributions of British Muslims across diverse sectors.

Mehmoud Ali, Events Coordinator at Golden Mosque told Rochdale Online: “It is an honour to be recognised as the best institution once again by a different awarding body, after previously being recognised as the best Madrassah for three consecutive years by the British Beacon Awards 2020-2022.

“This clearly shows our team is working hard for the next generation.”

The Golden Mosque is a historic establishment, first created in Spotland in the 1960s.
