Rochdale's new district commander eyes major improvements after five months in charge

Date published: 27 May 2024

Since January, Chief Superintendent Danny Inglis has been in the spotlight, leading the charge for Rochdale's policing efforts.

When Mr Inglis joined Greater Manchester Police in December 2001, "Murder On The Dancefloor" was in the charts, "The Lord of The Rings" was in the news, and the rookie officer from Tameside had high hopes for his new job in GMP.

Little over two decades later, the new Chief Superintendent for Rochdale is already making a mark in his position in the town.

In recent months, Rochdale has continued to produce results across a range of criminality – securing dozens of CSE-related charges.

Mr Inglis is hoping to see the good results continue to roll in, with Rochdale’s officers nailing everything expected of them.

He said: “My priority is to keep focused on the basics – I’m not one for catchy straplines or slogans, as I simply want to see cops in the community, tackling and solving crimes and providing a great service for local people.

“I want to see officers across Rochdale tackling robberies, tackling burglaries, and stopping and preventing vehicle crime.

“Safeguarding vulnerable people will always be top of the agenda too – it’s vital we look after those who have been the victims of crime, getting them the best support available while seeking the justice they deserve.

“Across the district we’ll be visiting schools and colleges, to speak to young people about all manner of topics and ensuring we prevent vulnerable youngsters from falling into, and becoming victims of, different types of criminality.”

DCS Inglis has worked across the force in his career – from the old Bootle Street station to Force Headquarters – and was recently Head of Intelligence for GMP.

Bringing all manner of skills to the position, Danny wants the people of Rochdale to get in touch with their local neighbourhood teams and let officers know about the issues in their area.

He added: “I want people to get in touch with their neighbourhood teams and speak to local officers and PCSOs. Whether it’s through a PACT meeting,or by simply approaching a local bobby on patrol, they are always keen to hear from you.

“Keep an eye on your local social media pages for updates on local news and policing events – and make sure to sign up to Bee In The Loop for all of the latest information on incidents in your area.”
