Getting to grips with the internet at Balderstone Learning Centre's 'Get Online' day.
Balderstone ICT learning centre opened their door to the public to help people get online for the first time and send their first ever email as part of national 'Get online' day.
With staff and existing learners at the centre acting as volunteers on hand to help, visitors tried everything from typing for the first time to doing their first internet search, sending their first email and trying their first online shop.
Balderstone ICT learning centre was one of over 500 Get online day events taking place at participating UK online centres, aiming to get more families online and show them how the internet could help them save time, money and hassle in everyday family life.
More than 12,000 people across England took up the challenge.
Majed Iqbal from Balderstone ICT learning Centre said: “Get online day has been a fantastic success this year, with more people than ever achieving their online ‘first’ at the centre. The internet is an increasingly important tool, and we’re here to help people use it. Everyday here at our centre is a Get online day, so it’s still not too late to pay us a visit and see what you could do online.”
Brian Thompson was one of the visitors who took part in Get online day at the centre. He had his very first taste of the internet on the day.
He said: “The day was very helpful in getting me started off in engaging with the internet. Now I want to learn more about the internet as an added interest in life.”
New learners Nabeela and Rukhsana Khan commented: “We want to learn about the internet and IT so that we are able to help our children at home with their school work.”
With more than 6,000 UK online centres across the country anyone can access the help and advice they need to achieve their first time online. From setting up an email account, learning how to use an online auction or even just getting help with homework, your local centre can help you on your online journey.
