Falcon webcam returns to Rochdale Town Hall

The new camera is now streaming live from the town hall clock tower

The live webcam, which provides a spectacular eagle-eyed view of the peregrine falcons nesting at Rochdale Town Hall, is back.

Over the next few months people can follow the lives of the falcons that live at the top of the Grade I-listed building.

Footage is live-streamed to a page on the Rochdale Town Hall web site, providing iconic images from the nesting area.

The falcons, often spotted soaring above the town centre on the hunt for food, are most active at the start of the breeding season during February and March.

Their egg-laying typically happens during late March or early April, while the chicks usually hatch during the first week of May.

The nesting period comes to an end in August.

Peregrine falcons have been nesting on the clock tower at Rochdale Town Hall since 2008. That year a nesting area was built to provide a safe haven for them to sleep, breed and raise their young.

The falcons have returned to the clock tower following a temporary relocation during the restoration work on Rochdale Town Hall over the past three years.
