Roadworks
Information on current and forthcoming roadworks planned to take place across the borough.

Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in the road.
Expected start and finish: Thursday 8 February 2024 – Thursday 29 February 2024 or until the work is complete if sooner.
Restriction and location: Part of Syke Road will be temporarily closed. This will be from a point 27 metres south of its junction with Cross Lees and run for a distance of 40 metres in a southerly direction.

Reason: To install electricity utilities equipment in the road.
Expected start and finish: Monday 19 February 2024 – Sunday 25 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Crescent Road. This will be from its junction with Kingsland Road to a point 180 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Crescent Road, Eskdale Avenue, Bolton Road and Matthew Moss Lane.

Reason: To make improvements to the junction.
Expected start and finish:
- Monday 19 February 2024 – Monday 13 May 2024.
- The 4-way traffic signals will only be used from 7am – 7pm, Mondays – Fridays when necessary between these dates.
Restriction and location:
Temporary single phase 4-way signals at the junction of Bury Road and Sandy Lane. The scheme involves:
- Upgrading of the traffic signal ducting/chambers to allow the replacement of the traffic signal installation. The new signals will include controlled pedestrian/cyclist crossings.
- Re-alignment of the kerb lines on all approaches and change of lane designation on Roch Valley Way to improve traffic flow and safety for vehicle movements.
- Resurfacing of footways and carriageway and new road markings to tie-in on all approaches.

Reason: To inspect a waste water manhole chamber in the road.
Expected start and finish: 3am – 5am, Monday 26 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Drake Street, from a point 5 metres south of its junction with South Parade for a distance of 20 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route:
- The alternative route for buses will be South Parade, Newgate, St Mary's Gate, John Street, Molesworth Street, Milnrow Road and Drake Street.
- These works will not interfere with tram services.

Reason: To repair a water service in the road.
Expected start and finish: Monday 26 February 2024 – Friday 1 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Royle Road, from a point 10 metres south of its junction with Silk Street to a point 50 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Royle Barn Road, Manchester Road and Silk Street.

Reason: To install a new sewer manhole cover supply in the road.
Expected start and finish: 9am – 3pm, Sunday 3 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Fletcher Street. This will be from its junction with Oldham Road to a point 10 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Hurst Street, Canal Street and Oldham Road.

Reason: To install a new cycle way at the junction of Manchester Road.
Expected start and finish: Monday 4 March 2024 – Tuesday 5 March 2024.
Restriction and location:
- While this work is in place, the one-way restrictions along Partington Street will be suspended. Vehicles will be allowed to travel in both directions along the entire length of Partington Street except for the part that will be closed, as described below.
- Temporary closure of part of Partington Street. This will be from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 20 metres in a northerly direction.
- Part of Nixon Street will be closed, from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 40 metres in a westerly direction. There will be no waiting allowed along this stretch.
- Part of Royal Barn Road will be closed, from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 20 metres in an easterly direction. There will be no waiting allowed along this stretch.
- Residential access will be maintained.

Restriction and location: Temporary prohibition of waiting in a section of Gordon Street. This will be from its junction with Oldham Road for a distance of 10 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: Not applicable.

Reason: To install electricity utilities equipment in the road.
Expected start and finish: Monday 11 March 2024 – Friday 5 April 2024.
Restriction and location:
The work will be carried out in the following 3 phases:
- Closure of part of Kingsland Road. This will be from the junction with Crescent Road to the junction of Clovelly Street.
- Closure of another part of Kingsland Road. This will be from the junction with Clovelly Street to the junction with Bideford Road.
- Closure of a third part of Kingsland Road. This will be from the junction with Bideford Road to a point 60 metres in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route:
- For the first phase, the alternative route will be Crescent Road, Grisedale Road and Eskdale Avenue.
- For the second phase, the alternative route will be Clovelly Street, Abbott Street and Bideford Road.
- For the third phase, there will be no alternative route available.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Norman Road, from its junction with Dane Street to a point 470 metres in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be signed onsite.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace gas mains in the road.
Expected start and finish: Wednesday 14 February 2024 – Wednesday 27 March 2024.
Restriction and location:
- Temporary closure of Hawkshead Drive, from a point 23 metres north of its junction with Fairfield Road for a distance of 190 metres in a north easterly direction.
- Access will be provided if required and safe to do so.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be Hawkshead Drive and Fairfield Road.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out telecoms works in the pavement.
Expected start and finish: 8am – 6pm, Sunday 3 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time along part of Manchester Old Road. This will start from a point 25 metres east of its junction with Chapel Street and run for a distance of 33 metres in an easterly direction. Please note this will be along the north side of the road only.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Heywood
Reason: To facilitate highway improvements.
Expected start and finish: Friday 16 June 2023 – Friday 5 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary 20mph speed limit on Pilsworth Road, from its junction with Moss Hall Road to the Heywood Distribution Park entrance.

Reason: To repair the road and pavement on Queens Park Bridge.
Expected start and finish:
- 8pm – 6am every day, Monday 12 February 2024 – Friday 16 February 2024 as required.
- 8pm – 6am every day, Monday 19 February 2024 – Friday 23 February 2024 as required.
- 8pm – 6am every day, Monday 26 February 2024 – Friday 1 March 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Queens Park Road. This will be from the entrance to the Queens Park car park to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street and Queens Park Road.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out highway works.
Expected start and finish
- Friday 16 February 2024 – Monday 19 February 2024.
- Friday 23 February 2024 – Monday 26 February 2024.
Restriction and location:
- Temporary closure of part of the northern carriageway of Queen Elizabeth II Way. This will be from its junction with Manchester Road to a point 330 metres west of this junction.
- Temporary prohibition of vehicles from turning left from Hill Top Road onto Queen Elizabeth II Way.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queen Elizabeth II Way in a south easterly direction is Queen Elizabeth II Way, Pilsworth Road, Bridge Street, Dawson Street, Bamford Road, Market Place, Lt Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, Church Street, Manchester Street and Manchester Road.

Reason: To lay a new water main and connections.
Expected start and finish: Saturday 17 February 2024 – Friday 1 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Walton Street, from its junction with Manchester Road for a distance of 30 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Manchester Road, Newhouse Road and Walton Street.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To clear a blockage in the road.
Expected start and finish: 9am – 5.30pm, Sunday 10 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Fir Street. This will start at its junction with Manchester Street and run for a distance of 14 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Fir Street, Russell Street, Well Street and Manchester Street.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking hydrant in the road.
Expected start and finish: Thursday 1 February 2024 – Thursday 22 February 2024 or until the work is completed if sooner.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a part of Finance Street. This will be from its junction with New Road to its junction with James Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is James Street, Watling Street and New Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a leaking service in the road.
Expected start and finish: Monday 5 February 2024 – Monday 26 February 2024 or until the works are complete, whichever is sooner.
Restriction and location:
- Closure of part of Old Road. This will be from a point 90 metres west of its junction with Calliards Road for a distance of 30 metres in a westerly direction.
- Access and egress will be maintained when it is safe to do so.

Reason: To replace a frame and cover in the road.
Expected start and finish: 9.30am – 4pm, Sunday 25 February 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Weston Street. This will be from its junction with Rochdale Road to a point 7 metres in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Weston Street, Nall Street, Whitehead Street and Rochdale Road.
