Date published: 26 January 2024

Trains were suspended and delayed on Friday afternoon (26 January) between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria due to a 'potential casualty' on the tracks at Castleton Railway Station.

British Transport Police said a person was identified but was “thankfully uninjured” and taken to a place of safety.

All lines were closed from 12.30pm with disruption expected to 3.30pm.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Castleton railway station just before 12.15pm today (26 January) following reports of a possible casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and a person was identified in connection, however they were thankfully uninjured. They have been taken to a place of safety."

Earlier in the day, National Rail advised: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale. To allow them to complete their work safely, all lines are closed. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.”
