The 'Foscars' - Fostering Oscars - event
A foster parent from Heywood has won an award at the ‘Foscars’ – fostering Oscars – awards afternoon in Wilmslow.
The event saw families from across Rochdale treated to an afternoon celebrating their long service and special achievements at an awards ceremony, hosted by The Fostering Team.
Five families were presented with a special achievement award and 11 families were presented with a long service award.
Susan, from Heywood, was given a special achievement award for the outstanding work she’s done with a young person around safeguarding.
The winners of the special achievement awards were decided by registered manager Anthony Turner and The Fostering Team’s social workers and office staff.
Anthony has been working for independent fostering agencies for more than 20 years, and uses his wealth of experience to support the foster parents in his team.
He said: “It’s been nothing short of a privilege to present these awards to foster parents who have dedicated years of their lives or provided truly transformational outcomes for our children and young people.
“All our foster parents are amazing and we should never underestimate what it takes to work with some of our most vulnerable and traumatised children and young people. We look at everything from educational achievements to safeguarding and all of the tiny details you might think don’t matter - but this can all really change a child’s life.”
After a successful awards evening and positive feedback from all fostering families this year, the ‘Foscars’ are set to become an annual event.
