Rochdale sports therapist wins third annual FitPro award

Date published: 29 December 2023

Local sports therapist and strength and conditioning coach Mia Pedro has won a third-place award for the third year in a row at the annual British Fitness Awards.

An athlete from a young age, Mia became a world champion in taekwondo at the age of 19 before pursuing a career as a therapist and coach to help other athletes achieve their goals and dreams.

Mia, a sports therapist from Rochdale, specialises in coaching those over 50, under 18s and children with special needs, provides online cardio sessions for those who struggle to leave the house and runs regular Zumba dance classes and charity fundraisers.

Mia described being recognised at the Fit Pro Awards again as both a shock and an honour, saying: “I have taken a step away from clinical work as a therapist this year as my career presenting fitness sessions and Zumba masterclasses at different events in both UK and abroad has led me to travel frequently, and yet still being recognised as third best at the fitness professional awards came as quite a shock.

“Placing third for the third year in a row is a massive honour.”

She continued: “I have done a few talks and seminars in the last year too and work closely with Mental Health UK to promote positive change and help confidence in both men and women.

“I find that Zumba helps a lot with body positivity image as well and provides confidence so it’s just so much more than just a fitness class. Sports therapy isn’t just about the physical aspect of injuries.”

She added: “Every person on the nomination list has made an impact one way or another to our fitness industry and it means the world to be recognised for doing something you love.

“I am blessed, honoured and very thankful to the British Fitness Professional Awards team for giving us a chance for recognition and the chance to celebrate our industry.”

Now in their ninth year, the British Fitness Awards celebrate the hard-working achievements of both independent and commercial businesses within the fitness industry.

This year over 24,000 nominations were received and over three million votes cast.
