Fundraiser for father “in critical condition” after police car collision

Date published: 04 December 2023

A community-driven fundraiser has successfully raised over £4,000 for a family reeling from a tragic incident.

A 38-year-old father – known only as Patryk – suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a police vehicle on Rochdale Road in Firgrove on 19 November. The accident occurred while he was walking home from a Christmas celebration.

Currently in a critical condition at Salford Royal, Patryk faces a multitude of severe injuries, including damage to his spine, a broken elbow, and injuries to both legs and his pelvis. He also requires surgery on one ankle.

His partner – who did not wish to be identified or publish Patryk’s surname – conveyed the severity of his condition: “He is fighting for his life. Though there are no head or brain injuries, he is still not conscious. There are brief moments when he shows signs of awareness, like squeezing my hand, but these are rare.

“His recovery is further complicated by a fever, delaying necessary surgeries. This ordeal has been incredibly long and taxing for us."

The tragedy came just a day after the couple's child's fourth birthday, a poignant reminder of the family's sudden shift from celebration to crisis.

Patryk’s colleagues have started a fundraiser to provide financial support for the family during this difficult period and urge the community to extend their compassion and assistance.

The collision occurred during a police chase, after another vehicle failed to stop when requested on Milnrow Road. Police said the chased vehicle failed to stop at the scene of the collision. Referrals were made to GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate and the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the male driver who fled the scene.

Donations to support Patryk and his family can be made via GoFundMe:
