Walk in centre remains closed after infestation
Date published: 20 October 2008
The Rochdale Walk In Centre on Whitehall Street will remain closed to allow further work to be completed. It was closed in August due to a flea infestation and will remain shut until officials are certain that the centre can be safely re-opened.
Services have been temporarily moved to Rochdale Infirmary A&E and Baillie Street health centre, while the Walk In Centre building is being treated.
Lesley Mort, Executive Director of Primary and Community Delivery, commented: “Whilst the treatments to the building have greatly improved the situation, there is still some evidence of infestation underneath. To try to minimise the risk of re-infestation by re-opening too soon, we have decided to keep the WIC closed until we are as sure as we can be that the building can be safely re-opened and that patient care and staff welfare will not be compromised. When we re-open, we intend to resume services from the Walk In Centre on a phased basis.
“Services and staff have been working very well together with little disruption to patient care, which is a testament to all staff involved. It is important therefore, that we maintain and develop these new ways of integrated working.”
