Wandering sheep and cows are a regular sight in Whitworth, but instances of their straying will soon be reduced.
After years of livestock straying into the town, the cattle grid at Whitworth Rake, leading to Lobden, has been replaced by a new one.
Whitworth Mayor and Councillor Mike Royds said most residents were happy with the new grid.
He continued: “This has taken some considerable time and is the result of hard work by Whitworth town councillors and our town clerk, all working together to achieve a very necessary and common goal. It has not been without its frustrations, mainly due to legalities but all these have now been solved.
“It should also be noted that Rossendale Borough Council have helped to ensure a successful outcome.”
