Local vicar to take on half marathon challenge in support of three churches

Date published: 03 October 2023

Reverend Sydwell Isaac will be taking part in the Rochdale Half Marathon this weekend to raise funds towards the upkeep and activities at three local churches: St Martin’s, Castleton; St George’s, Oakenrod, and St Aidan’s, Sudden.

Reverend Isaac will join thousands of dedicated runners at the starting line of the Rochdale Half Marathon on Sunday 8 October, a physically and mentally demanding endurance race that will see the vicar push his limits, drawing inspiration from his faith and commitment to his congregations.

With a passion for both his vocation and expanding upon community outreach initiatives, Sydwell recognises the importance of the churches as sacred spaces and community hubs that provide spiritual solace, host worship services, foster fellowship, and offer a myriad of programmes and events for residents of all ages.

Speaking about his motivation for taking on this challenge, Rev Isaac said: "These three churches hold profound significance in the lives of our community members.

“They are places where we come together to share moments of joy, find comfort during challenging times, and grow spiritually. It is my duty to ensure their continued operations and accessibility to all."

Supporters of the churches are encouraged to contribute to the fundraising campaign, either by making a per-mile pledge or offering a one-time donation.

The funds raised through this challenge will directly benefit the three churches Sydwell ministers to, enabling them to improve facilities, launch new community programmes, and ensure that these sanctuaries remain open and accessible for generations to come.
