Wardle Village Fete raises £849 for PAWS

Date published: 04 September 2023

Hundreds enjoyed the late summer sun for a day of fun at Wardle Village Fete.

Officially opened by the Mayor of Rochdale on Saturday 2 September, Wardle Village Fete & Dog Show returned for its ninth year.

Organised by Michele Way from Pennine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and Rebecca Hilton from Craft Cottage, the event was a huge success attracting hundreds of visitors.

There were stalls, face painting, donkey rides, a mobile bar, food, paint balling, welly wanging, sports day games and lots more to see and do. Local singer Jacey-Mae Hand also put on a show.

The main attraction was the Dog Show, with Roch Valley Radio keeping everyone entertained for the day.

Lots of community groups attended to fundraise for their own causes including Wardle Village Church, Wardle History Group and 'Boro Brass Band who raised £256.30 with their teddy tombola.

Artful - Make it Happen attended providing free children's crafts and also put on display their huge 'WARDLE' letters and wooden bunting. The letters and bunting were made in workshops than ran throughout September, with help from over 200 people from the local community.

The event raised £849 for PAWS, a voluntary group which rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs and cats in need.

PAWS have recently had to move premises and are currently fundraising to get their new site up and running.
