Axe and machete wielding thugs rob stamps
Date published: 16 October 2008
Two men armed with an axe and machete punched a security guard, pushed him over, and stole a box of stamps that he was delivering to Castleton Post Office yesterday (Wednesday 15 October).
The men got out of a Silver Seat at around 10.45am and confronted the security guard with their weapons in hand. He was left extremely shaken by the attack but was not injured.
The box that the men stole contained only stamps, there was no cash.
The offenders made their escape in the Seat and abandoned the car on Leander Drive before making their getaway in black Volkswagon Golf.
Police Officers are hunting the two men and they believe that the robbers were in the Leander Drive area before the robbery, possibly looking for a place to swap cars.
Detectives now want to hear from anyone who may have seen two men in a black VW Golf in or around Leander Drive around the time of the robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4646 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
